Zorro

1958

Sorry for the delay in posting this second real. I'm still trying to work out the most efficient way and the best software for the job. Sadly, it looks like it must be Photoshop which limits me to scanning at during working hours when I can make the time.

But let's not delay the adventure any longer. View-Master 3-D Spectacular now brings you Zorro, Reel 2.

"FROM NOW ON
I SHALL BE
ZORRO, THE FOX,"
SAID DON DIEGO

Booklet Text
THE JAGGED "Z" - Late that evening, a dispirited Don Diego entered his room and said to Bernardo, "I've just had to do something I'm not very proud of, Bernardo. My father told me of the intolerable conditions - unjust taxes, ranchers being flogged for not paying, slave labor by Indians - all to enrich one man - Capitan Monastario! Despite my inner anger, I had to pretend indifference, then feeble rage - now my father thinks I am a spineless weakling ..." Bernardo nodded understandingly.

"... But if I took open action, his life would be in danger." He picked up his sword. "From now on, I shall be Zorro, the Fox!" The sword flashed in three lightning cuts and upon a sheet of music appeared the "mark" of Zorro!

ZORRO'S HORSE
"TORNADO" HAD
BEEN RAISED
IN SECRET

"TORNADO" - The next day, Don Diego and Bernardo rode far from the ranch house. In the hills, they crept up on a magnificent stallion.

"Before I left for Spain," he told his man, "I entrusted a black colt to an old shepherd. Now look at my 'Tornado!' Black as death and as fiery as the wind he was named for. Not even my father will recognize this horse.

SERGEANT GARCIA
CHECKED TORRES
THE NEW
PRISONER.

Booklet Text

THE PRISONER - AS darkness fell within the cuartel, Segeant Garcia visited the new prisoner.

"Well, Senor Torres, you're still here, I see," he joked. Then cocking an ear upwards, he listened intently. "Ah, just nerves. I'm upset because the Comandante acts so strange tonight... I'm to dismiss the guards and bring him the cell keys!"

11

ABOVE, A
BLACK FIGURE
MOVED LIKE
A SHADOW.

Booklet Text

THE SHADOW - A masked horseman, leading another horse, rode up to the rear of the cuartel. Tying the horse to a tree, the rider stood on his saddle and, with a quick, catlike motion, gained the top of the wall. The next moment, a black figure slid noiselessly across the tile roof directly above the prisoner's cell.

"RELEASE THE
PRISONER," SAID
MONASTARIO, "TO
BE SHOT DOWN"

Booklet Text

THE PLOT - In his office, Capitan Monastario said to the lawyer, Licenciado, "Now take the keys and release the prisoner."

Won't he suspect something," asked Licenciado.

"You are a lawyer," Monastario replied impatiently. "Tell him you have reviewed his case and there has been a mistake. When he crosses the courtyard, give the alarm. I'll be waiting here..." He held up a pistol. "It is already in my report: Fugitive shot while attempting to escape."

ZORRO WATCHES
THE LAWYER
UNLOCK THE
CELL DOOR.

Booklet Text

THE WATCHER - As the lawyer crossed the courtyard, he was watched. A black-clad swordsman heard the lawyer say, "I have great news, Senor Torres. I have come to set you free."

There was a sound of a key turning in a padlock.

14

"WHO ARE YOU?"
ASKED TORRES.
"A FRIEND,
EL ZORRO."

Booklet Text

"EL ZORRO" - As the lawyer stepped into the cell, he heard a voice say, "Thank you, Licenciado."

Turning in surprise, the lawyer saw a masked man who cintinued, "You have most kindly solved the problem of opening the cell door. Take the keys, Senor Torres, and free yourself. Chain him to the bars."

This done, the mystery man led Torres from the cell saying "Now I suggest we depart over the wall."

As he climbed, Torres asked, "But who are you?"

"A friend of the people," was the reply, "El Zorro."
